Responsible Travel

At Gane and Marshall we are strongly committed to ethical and sustainable tourism, and are currently developing a new range of Fair-Trade Eco Holidays. These holidays address responsible tourism issues from the moment you make your booking to the time that you return home. Working on these path-breaking holidays has helped us to ensure that all of our products are as environmentally-friendly as possible.

As members of International Mountain Explorers Connection (IMEC), International Society of Mountain Medicine (ISMM) and the Ethical Tour Operators Group within Tourism Concern, and as supporters of Community Projects Africa, we do our best to look after not only you, but the communities we work with overseas.

Please feel free to contact Jeremy Gane, the company director, to discuss Gane and Marshall's responsible tourism projects.

- We use locally owned and run accommodation by preference.
- We support local income generation and small business enterprises by supporting locally owned shops and restaurants, and using local tour guide and ground handling services.
- We encourage - through our ground handlers, literature and presentations - participants on our expeditions to act in a responsible way and with an insight and understanding of the host destination.
- We aim to ensure that our type and scale of tourism is appropriate to local conditions and operate within the limits set by local infrastructure.

Gane & Marshall aim to take responsibility for maintaining and improving the environment.

- We aim to minimise water and atmospheric pollution from tourism.
- We aim to achieve zero litter policies.
- We aim to integrate environmental considerations into all economic considerations.
- We will try to ensure that foreign operators based in host destinations are not used in preference to local tour operators and guides.

Gane & Marshall provide financial support for local economic and environmental projects that will benefit local communities. We actively encourage local community involvement in Tourism Projects via our United Kingdom registered partner charity - Community Projects Africa.

We recycle 90% of office waste paper and recycle glass and cans in partnership with our sister company Charity Challenge. Through tight management systems, we try to reduce paper consumption and keep waste to a minimum. We source paper, used in our administration process, which has 100% recycled paper content.
