Chamilandu Bushcamp

South Luangwa, Zambia

Chamilandu Bushcamp

Chamilandu camp offers comfort, class and beauty in one of the Luangwa Valley's prime river locations.

The Bushcamp Company runs six specialist safari camps in one of Africa's most beautiful wilderness areas, the South Luangwa National Park, Zambia. It was here that the walking safari was first pioneered, and the emphasis at each of the bush camps is very much on experiencing the African wilderness up close and on foot.

Chamilandu Camp boasts a superb location in the heart of the Luangwa Valley, set between a series of seven ox-box lagoons that yield a diversity of wildlife and consistently rewarding game-viewing. It is the smallest of the Bushcamp Company camps, accommodating just six guests at a time in three chalets. Game-viewing is generally excellent, both from the camp and on the walking trails. Day and night game drives are also offered, though the focus here is very much on game-viewing on foot.

Chamilandu Camp is open June to November. The Bushcamp Company's other camps in the South Luangwa include Bilimungwe, Chindeni, Kapamba, Zungulila, and Kuyenda.

Accommodation

There are just three stilted, en-suite "treehouses", all of which offer an elevated view over the waters of the Luangwa River and to the distant Nchindeni Hills. The rooms have been designed to make the most of these views – each opens onto a broad verandah, and features an open-fronted bathroom with a direct view onto the surrounding wilderness.

Two of Chamilandu's rooms are made up as twins and one as a king-size double.

Dining

Chamilandu's thatched dining area and bar/lounge, like its guest chalets, feels almost contiguous with the surrounding wilderness, positioned directly on the sandy banks of the Luangwa River, beneath a canopy of ebony trees. Meals are typically enjoyed under the thatch canopy or directly on the sandy banks.
