Outline Itinerary

  1. Day 1: Arrive Entebbe

    Arrive Entebbe. Overnight in a centrally-located hotel.

  2. Day 2: Transfer Entebbe to Kasese. Overnight at local hotel.

    Transfer from Entebbe to Kasese by road or air. Overnight at a local hotel.

  3. Day 3: To Samalira Camp. Approx. 5 to 7 hours

    Your trek departs from the Trekker’s Hostel in Kilembe, 12 kilometres from Kasese and a short drive from Fort Portal. Here your guide will introduce you to the rest of the support team and conduct a thorough kit check.

  4. Day 4: To Kiharo Camp – 6.9km – 4 to 5 hours

    After a hearty breakfast you commence walking. The trail climbs steadily to begin with, with a steep section of about 200m as you ascend a narrow moss covered ridge.

  5. Day 5: To Bugata Camp – 6.8km – 4 to 5 hours

    Your starting height today is 3,518 metres. You climb to 4,200 metres on the top of the confluence between the Nyamwamba and Namusangi Valleys, before dropping to Bugata Camp at 4,060 metres.

  6. Day 6: To Butawu Camp – 6km – 5 to 6 hours

    Today’s route is designed to help you acclimatise. Starting at 4,030m, you climb to the top of Bamwanjara Pass (4,450m), before dropping to Butawu Camp at 3,975m, meaning you rest tonight at a slightly lower altitude.

  7. Day 7: To Margherita Camp – 4.1km – 4 to 5 hours

    Today’s walk is a relatively easy ascent of approx. 330m.

  8. Day 8: To Margherita Peak – 11.2km – 8 to 10 hours

    Starting at a height of 4,460m and climbing to 5,109m, today’s climb will take around 8-10 hours – 4-6 hours up to Margherita Peak and 3-4 hours back down to Butawu Camp.

  9. Day 9: To Bugata Camp – 10.1km – 5 to 7 hours

    Starting at Margherita Camp/Butawu Camp, you trek down to Kitandara Hut at 4,025m, where the trail drops a little more to pass just above the Kachope Lakes at 3,975m, and then over Bamwanjara Pass (4,450m), before finally dropping to Bugata Camp.

  10. Day 10: To Kilembe via Kalalama Camp – 19km – 6 to 10 hours

    Today you descend via the Namusangi Valley across open moorland and large areas of tussock grass. As this is a valley floor, it is rather wet and at times boggy. It is a good idea to have your rubber boots ready for this section.

  11. Day 11: Departure

    We can arrange for your morning transfer to Entebbe in time for the evening flight home.
