Trekking in Oman – General Information & Locations
The trekking season is generally from September to May, but the best period is October to April. Above 1,900m altitude trekking is possible all year round. The countryside is mostly rugged and the trails are loose, but trekking is by far the best way to enjoy Oman's spectacular mountain-landscape. We offer treks of varying lengths (1 to 9 dys) in four trekking regions in Oman. These are:
* Western Hajar, including Jebal Shams, Oman's highest peak
* Eastern Hajar - inland from Sur
* the Wahiba Sands desert
* the Capital Area around Muscat and the adjacednt coastline
Different types of Oman treks with varying degrees of difficulty can be arranged; from the easy start in the Capital Area to the stunning Rim Walk in the Grand Canyon of Jebal Shams.
We can provide a fully organised Oman trek, complete with donkey-porters, guide, all necessary equipment and reliable driven transport to and from the starting and finishing points. We also provide you with a choice of itineraries.
The Eastern & Western Regions of the Hajar Mountains have the best routes suitable for day walkers & trekkers of all grades.
The Western Region of Oman includes Jebal Shams, Hoti Cave, Soiq Plateau, Wadi Awf, Bilat Sayt and the famous "green mountain", Jebal Akhdar.
The Eastern Region of Oman includes Kebe Keb, Wadi Bani Khalid, Wadi As Shab, Wadi Dayqah & Wadi Tiwi.
Jebel Shams, or ‘mountain of the sun’, is the highest point in Oman at over 3,000 metres. The trek to the Wadi Nakhr Gorge, also known as the Grand Canyon of Oman, is an unforgettable experience. Deep bends, overhanging rocks and panoramic views of the canyon all add to the exhilarating experience.
