Amboseli National Park

Most of Amboseli is flat and dusty with large grasslands and limited woodland, allowing for easy game viewing. The game is varied, with the park particularly famous for its huge herds of elephant, as well as buffalo, cheetah, lion, leopard and antelope.

Set against the backdrop of Mt Kilimanjaro, Amboseli offers one of the most immediately recognisable landscapes in Africa; photos of its vast, dusty plains, teeming with elephant and assorted plains game, and overlooked by the snow-topped peak of Kilimanjaro, regularly feature in depictions of East Africa.

One of Kenya's most popular parks, Amboseli is easily accessible from Nairobi. Most activities take place in game vehicles, but walking safaris are also possible.

In Amboseli, as in the Masai Mara, you’ll have the opportunity to interact with the local Masai tribesmen and women at many of the park's camps and lodges.

Amboseli can get very busy, which is problematic due its small size, so we rarely recommend long stays in the park unless you’re visiting one of the neighbouring private conservancies (for instance, Kitirua, Selenkay or Elerai), which offer a much more intimate experience. Combine a safari in Amboseli National Park with a visit to one of the quieter conservancies in the Masai Mara, however, and you’ll have a wonderful safari.
