Shira8<\/b><\/a>\u00a0– This open group climb is the most competitively-priced<\/strong> and this route has a very high success rate in reaching the summit<\/strong>. Departures run every week through the climb seasons. Shira Route runs parallel to the well-established Lemosho route.<\/p>\nShira Eight Days Climb starts on the west of the Kilimanjaro massif. Like Lemosho the Shira approach is widely considered to be among the most scenic routes up Kilimanjaro, with plenty of opportunity for wildlife viewing.<\/p>\n
Shira8 commences on a 4WD track through tree plantations and heath, from where the route commences on foot through The Barrier and onto Shira Plateau. The advantage of taking Shira is that a visit to the north flank of Kilimanjaro may be included within an eight days programme. As the trail crosses Shira Plateau to Moir Hut and the Lent Group\u00a0 there are good chances of spotting\u00a0 the shy eland (an antelope that has grown long coats especially to deal with the cold Kilimanjaro nights) as well as the occasional buffalo coming to lick minerals from the natural caves high on the slopes of Kilimanjaro. From the airy viewpoint of the Lent Group (15,400ft. \/4,700mts.) you can look down onto the plains of Kenya to the north of Kilimanjaro. <\/b><\/p>\n
After this fabulous excursion to the north west of Kilimanjaro, Shira Route continues to the Barafu Ridge approach to the summit on the south flank.<\/p>\n
The descent from the summit takes you down through the Mweka rain forest.<\/p>\n
