South Luangwa is the most famous park in Zambia and one of Africa’s finest wildlife sanctuaries.

From the cool hills of the Muchinga Escarpment to the spectacular oxbow lagoons and open sandbanks of the Luangwa River, South Luangwa is a diverse region supporting an abundant population of wild animals and birdlife.

The park is sustained by the Luangwa River system, home to all manner of wildlife, with staggering concentrations of hippo. Much of the park is wooded with large ebony forests that open out onto sweeping plains dotted with mopane, leadwood and baobab.
