Kilimanjaro from Tinga Tinga Bush Camp

Tanzania:
Kilimanjaro

Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa (one of the world's Seven Summits), the highest free-standing mountain in the world and one of the largest volcanoes ever to break through the Earth's crust. And this is not all: within its single great ecosystem lies almost every kind of environment found on Earth. In the space of a few days you will pass from the equator to the Arctic, through tropical rain forest, alpine meadows, moorland, desert uplands and snow and ice.

Why climb?

Climbing Kilimanjaro  is for many the experience of a lifetime. Whilst offering a great challenge, with suitable preparation any healthy person has a good chance of reaching the top. Our climbs are extremely well-organised, and have a long standing record of better than 95% success rate, and an impeccable safety record. Gane and Marshall now send one qualified miountain guide with every two climbers - the best ratio of staff to climber on the mountain.

And once you've climbed it, you have earned the right to call it "Kili"!

When to climb Kilimanjaro & Meru

Good seasons to climb are December - March and June to October.

Gane and Marshall have open groups which you can join. These groups depart during the best climbing seasons. Please ask our office for dates. We shall also be delighted to set up an open group at dates to suit you. Then we seek others to join you and so bring your climb costs down.

You may want to climb Kili or Meru, when the moon is full or nearly full. Reaching your chosen peak in the period three or four days before or after full moon will still ensure a moon-lit climb. Click to check: Moon Phase Chart

How much does it Cost?

Prices for 2010 start from USD1770 for the Rongai6 Fixed Departure  Groups departing most Sundays in the climb season.

An exciting additional climb route for 2011 will be Rongai7 at USD1995, starting most Sundays in climb season. This brand new rouote skillfully uses the Kilimanjaro terrain to give a gentle approach and a lovely quiet trail up to Barafu.

Shira8  climbs (our most popular and succesful)  start most Fridays in Arusha cost USD2243 per person. Contact us for a personalised costing  or click here for 2010 prices and here for 2011 prices.

For those in a hurry Rongai Six Days climbs are useful but please note that your chances of sumitting are reduced by the shorter time to acclimatise to altitude.

These  rates for 2010 include one free map for every two bookings made together; and we are now staffing our climbs with one qualified mountain guide for every two climbers!

Gane and Marshall sponsor the Kilimanjaro Information Web Pages, which you can visit for more detail about routes, climate, flora, fauna and geology etc.
