Northern Cape and West Coast
The Northern Cape is the largest yet most sparsely populated region of South Africa. It is a diverse region with desert, coast, flatland salt pans, and rugged mountain ranges.
The mostly barren Namaqualand region of the West Coast boasts one of the most stunning flower displays every spring from August to mid September as fields stretch out in blankets of orange and purple as far as the eye can see.
Beautiful fishing villages dominate the West Coast, and to the South lay the Cederberg Mountains. The Orange River, the longest in South Africa, flows through the region providing irrigation for the surrounding agriculture.

The Cedarberg Mountain is famous for its numerous walking trails and San (Bushman) Rock Art sights. You can visit the West Coast National Park near Langebaan not just for the fauna & flora, but also for the fossil deposits in the area. If you are a keen walker or if you want to get out of the mainstream tourist areas then we recommend that you visit this unspoiled area.
Follow the Anglo-Boer War Route reliving the events of 1899-1902. For the more adventurous, the area is a paradise with adrenalin activities from river rafting to motorcycling, 4x4 trails to paragliding.
