South Africa:
Mpumalanga
Mpumalanga is one of South Africa’s most unique destinations. The region is divided in half by the Drakensberg Mountains, with expansive grasslands to the west and savannah to the east.
Aptly known as ‘Paradise Country’ the scenery throughout the region is spectacular, with deep gorges, dramatic rock formations and cascading waterfalls. Among the most notable sights are the awe inspiring Blyde River Canyon and the 'Three Rondvels' - natural rock towers. North towards Tzaneen truly beautiful scenery is to be found with winding passes, lush vegetation and abundant flora - most notably azaleas and cherry trees which flower in September and October.
Around Mpumalanga
Gameviewing is brilliant with numerous parks and reserves in the area. Limpopo and Sabi-Sand are highlights. The world renowned Kruger National Park is the oldest in South Africa, and the primary attraction at Mpumalanga. But the region offers a great deal more. It is steeped in History, and the rock paintings you’ll encounter, as well as the gold rush towns of Pilgrims Rest and Barberton are testament to this.
Nearby are the fascinating Bourke's Luck Potholes and viewing points such as God's Window, as well as numerous waterfalls, valleys, rivers and panoramic mountain passes. Pilgrim' Rest, a replica of the early gold mining town, is one of the best examples of a living museum.
Mpumalanga is often considered the adventure sport capital of Africa. Adrenalin activities from kayaking, cave diving to ballooning, para gliding, bungee jumping and much more are all possible. The Drakensberg Range offers excellent hiking routes.
