Ostrich Farm - Oudtshoorn

South Africa:
Little Karoo

The Little Karoo is a fertile valley, bounded on the north by the Swartberg and on the south by the Langeberg and Outeniqua mountains. It is an obvious extension to any trip along the garden route.

The area is typified by its semi-arid climate giving host to a variety of flora and succulents. Winter rainfall gives rise to diverse microclimates making the vineyards, mountains and passes a stunning show of ever changing colours.

The main town of the region is Oudtshoorn. This quaint town, steeped in history, is a perfect base from which to explore the region.

Around Little Karoo
Oudtshoorn is home to the largest Ostrich population in the world with a number of specialist Ostrich breeding farms and show farms. A number of wine routes also run through the region linking many of the wineries.

The Cango Caves and Karoo National Park are other highlights.
