Gauteng

Situated in the heart of the Highveld, Gauteng is the smallest province of South Africa. Despite its size, Gauteng is one of the most densely populated regions of South Africa with a number of major cities situated in the region.
Bordered by Free State and Vaal River to the South, the North West region to the North as well as Mpumalanga and Limpopo, Gauteng is well enclosed. The region is home to the busy cities of Soweto, Pretoria and, of course, Johannesburg, Gauteng’s capital and the largest city in South Africa. All offer excellent accommodation and numerous city attractions from museums, to bars, restaurants and sport facilities. They are also an ideal base for exploring the surrounding countryside.

Johannesburg, Soweto and Pretoria offer the usual city attractions. Outside the city, the Pilansberg Game Reserve is home to the Big Five and a number of nature reserves – Groenkloof, Rietvlei, Wonderbloom – as well as the Lion Park and Walter Sisulu National Botanical Garden.
