Garden Route

(South Africa)

The Garden Route is a scenic stretch of coastline running from Mossel Bay in the west to the Tsitsikamma National Park in the east.

This enchanting area, locked between the Outeniqua Moutains in the north and the Indian Ocean in the south, is defined by its lakes, lagoons, indigenous yellow-wood forests and spectacular mountain passes. Situated in the heart of the ‘Cape Floral Kingdom’, the mass of cape fynbos makes for stunning flower displays - the Garden Route certainly lives up to its name. It really is one of the most beautiful destinations in Africa.

In and around the Garden Route
Drive along the Wilderness coastal stretch enjoying the beach and lakes before travelling on to Knysna to explore the lagoon. Some of the best beaches are to be found in Plettenberg and Hermanus is a whale watcher’s paradise. From Knysna you can travel north to Oudtshorn to visit the Cango Caves and ostrich and cheetah farms as well as some of the most magnificent mountain passes in Africa.

Tsitsikamma Forest offers excellent walking and birdwatching, and many of the coastal towns offer a wealth of outdoor and water activities. The region’s Mediterranean maritime climate is ideal for such activities.
