Mahe Island
(Seychelles)
Although Mahé is the largest of the islands, it is paradoxically one of the least known. Those who know and love it, however, will testify that it is easily one of the most beautiful in the whole archipelago.
Mahé, with an area of 150 square kilometres, is the largest island of the Seychelles. Morne Seychellois, with a peak rising to 905 metres, also makes it the highest. Even when it rains, there is always some spot in Mahé where it is sunny: usually, all you have to do is cross to the other side of the island to find the fine weather.
Mahe is still relatively unspoilt and home too many superb, often deserted beaches. South Mahe, in particular, is home to strips of beautiful beach skirting underwater coral gardens – perfect for diving. The interior offers lush tropical hillsides that are ideal for hiking.
In and around Mahé Island
There are many places in Mahé worth exploring. In the North, explore Victoria, the capital of the Seychelles, with its well-known port and clock tower, a replica of Big Ben.
Visitors can linger at the Craft Village, visit the Creole Institute, explore the interior via the trail paths, discover the spectacular fauna and, of course, enjoy the famous beaches.

Other regions in Seychelles
La Digue Island, discovered as recently as 1744, lies 43 kilometres from Mahe and 6 km from Praslin
The largest, yet one of the least known islands in the Seychelles.
The island of Praslin is famous for its tranquil atmosphere, fabulous unspoilt beaches and the Vallee de Mai.
In the Seychelles there are many other smaller islands, each one a genuine pearl.
