Trek Oman
Oman will offer you dramatic and beautiful scenery, deserts, mountain ranges with fascinating wadis and many miles of unspoiled beaches.
The country is safe, unspoiled, prosperous and hospitable. Located in the Arabian Peninsula, south east of Saudi Arabia and north of the Yemen. Seaward to the south west extends the east coast of Africa and links with Zanzibar; Tanzania, and Ethiopia.
The mountain ranges and deserts offer wonderful locations for trekking, camping, and 4WD touring. "A night under the stars" in Oman is an experience never to be forgotten.
Trekking in Oman – General Information & Locations
The trekking season is generally from September to May, but the best period is October to April. Above 1,900 meter altitude trekking is possible all year round. The countryside is mostly rugged and the trails are loose, but trekking is by far the best way to enjoy Oman's spectacular mountain-landscape. We offer treks of varying lengths (1 to 9 dys) in four trekking regions in Oman. These are:-
* Western Hajar including Oman's highest peak Jabal Shams
* Eastern Hajar - inland from Sur
* the Capital Area around Muscat
* the Musandam Peninsula in the north adjacent to UAE and near to Dubai.
Different types of trips with varying degrees of difficulty can be done; from the easy start in the Capital Area to the stunning Rim Walk in the Grand Canyon of Jebal Shams.
We can provide a fully organised trek, complete with donkey-porters, guide, necessary equipment and reliable driven transport to and from the starting and finishing points. We also provide you with a choice of itineraries.
The Eastern & Western Regions of the Hajar Mountains have the best routes suitable for day walkers & trekkers of all grades.
The Western Region includes Jebal Shams, Hoti Cave, Soiq Plateau, Wadi Awf, Bilat Sayt and the famous "green mountain" Jebal Akhdar.
The Eastern Region includes Kebe Keb, Wadi Bani Khalid, Wadi As Shab, Wadi Dayqah & Wadi Tiwi.
Jebel Shams, or ‘mountain of the sun’, is the highest point in Oman at over 3,000 metres. The trek to the Wadi Nakhr Gorge, also known as the Grand Canyon of Oman, is an unforgettable experience. The trek to reach the cliff dwellings in the canyon begins at the village of Al Khateem and the path is littered with rocky rubble. Deep bends, overhanging rocks and panoramic views of the canyon all add to the exhilarating experience.
Situated 145 kilometres southwest of Muscat at the far end of Wadi Bani Awf in the Wilayat of Rustaq is Snake Canyon, which offers once-in-a-lifetime experiences for adventure-seekers. At 1,000 metres, the canyon is a 200-metre deep fissure, approximately three kilometres long, providing an idyllic location.
We also recommend you spend some time in the Mussandam Peninsula, where there is fabulous walking as well as opportunity to discover the fjiords of the coast.
