Mount Meru

Mt.Meru towers over the bustling, friendly town of Arusha, the starting point for Northern Safaris and treks. Now officially measured as Africa's fourth highest mountain, a few metres taller than Rash Deshen in Ethiopia, Mount Meru is a great four day trek/climb. You will pass through magical cloud forest and then as you trek out onto the high heath, have fabulous views across the plains of Tanzania to the Rift Escarpment and to Kilimanjaro. The summit approach on Meru takes you around a volcanic cone and jagged rim of austere and giant proportions. Views to mteh ash cone within the crater are phenomenal.
Meru is located in Arusha National Park, where may be seen buffalo, giraffe, antelope, baboon and colobus monkey as well as numerous species of birds in the cloud forest and on the plains.

When to climb Kilimanjaro & Meru
Good seasons to climb are December - March and June to October.
You may want to climb Kili or Meru, when the moon is full or nearly full. Reaching your chosen peak in the period three or four days before or after full moon will still ensure a moon-lit climb. Click to check: Moon Phase Chart
