Nairobi

Kenya:
Nairobi

Nairobi is a bustling, lively city which boasts its own National Park.

Nairobi is one of the largest cities in Africa. The city, like most, is home to a large business district, as well as leafy suburbs and busy market areas which fan out from the centre. The cities population is diverse, and the nightlife is active. There are many excellent restaurants and a number of sights which we recommend that you visit.

Much of Nairobi is green-space. There are numerous parks within the city including Nairobi National Park itself, where you can view lion, giraffe, cheetah and rhino among other mammals, against a backdrop of skyscrapers. It is certainly not a typical safari experience, but the park is surprisingly well preserved and is certainly worth a visit if you are not going to have a chance to travel outside the city to the larger game parks.

In and around Nairobi
The National Park as well as Uhuru Park, Jeevanjee Gardens and the Nairobi Arboretum are all popular places to visit, as is the Giraffe Centre, the Karen Blixen Museum and the Daphne Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage.

Wandering the business district, main shopping areas and markets is safe during the day. There are numerous restaurants in Nairobi, some of which are very good. The Carnivore Restaurant has become a popular attraction in its own right, specialising in meat dishes and all you can eat buffet, it also serves vegetarian.
