Bahir Dar
Bahir Dar is situated on the southern shore of Lake Tana, the source of the Blue Nile. The region is unique as the home of thirty-seven scattered islands on Lake Tana. These islands are accessible by boat and about twenty of the islands have beautiful churches and monasteries on them.
Lake Tana is the source of the Blue Nile which flows from Ethiopia to Sudan. Just 30 kilometres outside of Bahir Dar are the famous Blue Nile Falls. Ensure that you visit the Falls shortly after the rainy season in order to see them at their best.

You can visit the Blue Nile Falls and some of the monasteries on the Islands in Lake Tana. Bahir Dar also has a lively market that we recommend you visit.

Axum is a city in northern Ethiopia named after the long lived Kingdom of Aksum, a naval and trading power that ruled from 400 BC into the 10th century - nearly 1,500 years.
