Walking Safaris

Walking safaris are without a doubt one of the most rewarding ways to see the African bush.  It gives you the chance not just to see the big animals, but also to learn more about the insects, reptiles, plants and trees often ignored on game drives. Walking safaris can either be a short walk from the camp or lodge where you stay to a multiple day safari.  Most lodges in Southern and East Africa will at the least offer short morning walks.

In Tanzania, Katavi National Park is one of the  national parks where walking, accompanied by armed rangers, is possible.  In the Selous Game Reserve you can walk from camp for an hour or two at a time or there are vehicle supported fly camping trips available for one or two nights or up to several days.  Sand Rivers offer an excellent 5 day safari for weekly set departures.  You can also walk in the Rift Valley Masai lands of Tanzania, Ngorongoro Crater Highlands as well as Loliondo, and in the Greater Serengeti ecosystem and Tarangire National Park. Try our Tanzania Light Mobile Safaris for low cost walking in North Tanzania.

In Zambia’s South Luangwa National Park you can walk from usually take parts in short walks from your lodge, or go on a more lengthy, organised walking safari.

In South Africa, Ngala Game Reserve, near Kruger National Park and Phinda Resource Reserve offer excellent 4 day walking safari options.
