Tucked away in a forest clearing a short distance from Andasibe and Mantadia, Vakona Forest Lodge's cosy bungalows are perfect for wildlife enthusiasts looking to explore this unique region of Madagascar.

Vakona Forest Lodge is located within a forest clearing close to the entrance of Andasibe National Park. Its bungalow rooms sit on a hillside overlooking the forest and a small lake.

The rooms are set within vibrant gardens and surrounded by forest and lush vegetation, which attracts lots of colourful birdlife.

Vakona Forest is a very well-run lodge that is often busy as a result of its popularity. There are several things to do in the area so many guests choose to stay for a few nights.

Accommodation

Vakona Forest Lodge offers 28 spacious bungalows, spread out along the hillside and in the gardens. Most sleep two in double/twin beds, but a small number are family bungalows that can accommodate up to four people. All of the bungalows have been carefully decorated and are equipped with a safe, small fridge, mosquito nets, tea/coffee making facilities and a heater for the cooler months. There is also a small terrace out front.

Dining

Vakona Forest Lodge's restaurant is situated in the heart of the complex and opens onto a terrace with views of the lake. During the cooler months lunch and dinner are often served around the fireplace in the dining room.

Activities

Guided walks in Andasibe and Mantadia National Parks are the main activities at Vakona. There are paths marked out around the hotel if you would like to walk in the surrounding forest. Canoeing and horse riding are also possible locally.

Visit Lemur Island and the Crocodile Park – guided visits departing from Vakona Lodge are available by arrangement.
