Larsen's Camp

Samburu Game Reserve, Kenya

Larsen's Camp

Larsen's Camp is a stylish retreat situated in Kenya's Samburu National Reserve. It has twenty rooms and is ideal for families thanks to its easy atmosphere and good facilities including pool.

Larsen's Camp is a mid-sized camp located in Kenya's Samburu National Reserve. Named after Danish explorer Erik Ole Larsen, the camp offers comfortable accommodation and a prime location on the edge of the Uaso Nyiro River. This isn't Kenya's most luxurious camp, but the atmosphere is relaxed and the service reliably good.

"Camp" is a bit of a misnomer. Rather than a bush camp set-up, Larsen's Camp more closely resembles a small hotel. The tented rooms are large and spacious and feature tiled en-suite bathrooms and wooden flooring. The camp facilities include swimming pool, jacuzzi, small spa, computer room and lounge and bar.

Not the best choice of safari camp for those looking for a remote bush camping experience, then, but Larsen's Camp is nevertheless one of the most comfortable options in Samburu.

Accommodation

There are twenty tented rooms, or chalets, at Larsen's Camp, all built on raised stone platforms with a private balcony. The rooms are spacious and colourfully decorated with a mix of modern furnishings and standard safari camp features such as large carved wooden trunks. The rooms at Larsen's are solid, permanent structures, with wooden floors and tiled bathrooms. The bathrooms feature walk-in showers, flush loo, and a constant supply of hot water. The tents are supplied with electricity.

Dining

Larsen's Camp offers a great dining experience. Breakfast is a light continental-style buffet. Lunch and dinner are a la carte - the menus are varied and change often. The dining locations are equally varied, with options to dine on the river bank under the shade of fig trees, on the riverfront deck, around the fire, or on the deck overlooking the watering hole. Bush meals are also offered, complete with folding chairs and camp table.

Larsen's Camp has a well-stocked bar. Cocktails are served each evening around the campfire.
