Akagera Game Lodge

Akagera Game Lodge is currently the only place to stay in Akagera Game Lodge. A large, not entirely attractive hotel, it does have the advantage of a marvellous location, overlooking a busy watering hole.

Akagera Game Lodge is a safari hotel set in the game-viewing zone of Akagera National Park, an expanse of savannah punctuated with eight lakes which attract thirsty antelope, elephant, zebra and giraffe daily.

Built on the site of the old Akagera Hotel, Akagera Game Lodge opened in 2003 and offers a decent range of safari activities, including 4x4 drives and guided walks.

Akagera Game Lodge is a plain and basic hotel whose real advantage is its excellent location and generally good service. The hotel has a conference room, swimming pool, and tennis courts, which some guests may appreciate, but which others will find out of place in a wildlife lodge.

Please don't expect a traditional safari camp or lodge. Indeed, "lodge" is misleading; Akagera Game Lodge is really a hotel, and a fairly large one at that. It is currently one of only two places to stay in Akagera National Park, which goes some way to justifying its large size.
