General Description
Thanda Private Game Reserve is situated in northern Zululand in close proximity to the Indian Ocean, and offers one of the best safari experiences in South Africa. The inimitable integration of South Africa’s best climate and rich bush land has made Thanda home to an amazing variety of wildlife, including over four hundred bird species.

Thanda, meaning ‘love’ in Zulu, seeks to combine Zulu culture with wildlife, romance and exclusivity. There are cultural visits to Zulu villages allowing you to witness Zulu impi dancing, combat, and the Vula Zulu, a traditional homestead showcasing Zulu tradition. Of course, you can just enjoy exploring the reserve.

Accommodation
There are nine luxury bush villas at the main lodge, each with private heated splash pools and bomas, ideal for intimate open-air dinners. The outdoor salas are impossible to resist for an afternoon siesta amid views of the surrounding unfenced bush. Each villa has a fireplace, large bedroom and lounge. Luxurious bathrooms have oversized baths, and indoor as well as outdoor showers.

There is also a tented camp, built in colonial safari style. The six beautifully furnished tents have four-poster beds, en-suite canvas bathrooms and magnificent views of the game reserve. Public facilities include an intimate dining tent and boma, an outdoor lounge and a plunge pool for cool relief on hot summer days.

Dining
Excellent food is served in the fire-lit dining room, outdoor boma or on the outdoor dining decks. At the main lodge guests may also choose to dine privately in the private boma or decks of each villa. Bush breakfasts, lunches or dinners can also be arranged.
