Selinda Camp
(Chobe National Park and Linyanti - Botswana)
General Description
Selinda Camp is situated in the Selinda, a 1350km² private reserve that straddles the Selinda Spillway. This ephemeral waterway links the Okavango Delta in the west to the Kwando/Linyanti river system in the east. Here are found the game-rich floodplains of the Selinda and the Zibalianja Lagoon, the source of the Savute Channel.
The camp is built on a shady island overlooking the waters of the eastern Selinda Spillway. The main area comprises a series of expansive decks that invite you to stop and soak up the spectacular views and surrounding wildlife. The design of the main area is such that there is never a barrier to these views, whether guests are relaxing in the lounge, having brunch under the cool shade of the thatched roof, or enjoying a 3-course dinner on the open "star deck". Set apart from the main area is the photo/art gallery built above the wine cellar.
Daily activities revolve around morning, afternoon and night game drives with experienced professional guides in custom built 4x4 Toyota Land Cruisers. Short walking safaris from the camp are encouraged. Accompanied by an armed professional guide, these walking safaris give guests the chance to be introduced to some of Africa's less prominent wildlife. The Selinda is host to a wide variety bird species (300+) and mammals, including several species of antelope, hippo, buffalo, zebra, giraffe, cheetah, wild dog, lion and plenty of elephant. Night game drives allow guests to see such nocturnal species as the small cats, porcupine, springhare, hyena and perhaps even the elusive leopard.
Accommodation
Selinda's 9 large, luxury tents are erected under cool thatch canopies, with all units having exceptional views across palm studded floodplains. Each tent has en-suite facilities, including wonderful stone baths. The bathroom is uniquely "open air" with lots of natural light, yet is screened and virtually bug-proof. The tents are spacious and beautifully appointed with furniture and features that have been collected from around Africa. Four-poster mosquito nets and overhead fans are standard. The camp can accommodate 18 guests in total.
Dining
There is a large thatched dining area and lounge/bar where three course meals are served under the stars. Liquors and coffee are served around the campfire. All drinks are included except champagne and premium brands.

Environmental Policy
Selinda Camp is run by Wilderness Safaris. Wilderness is a company at the forefront of eco-tourism who employ full-time environmentalists to ensure their camps are as eco-friendly as possible. Solar heating and power, limited burning of fossil fuels and the utilisation of battery-operated lighting systems are standard. All camps are small, mostly tented and designed to blend into the natural environment. Their goal is that if a camp has to be moved the site can be restored to its natural state. Their "conservation through tourism" policy shares the benefits of tourism with local communities and ensures the protection of these areas for future generations.
