Migunga Forest Camp Manyara
(Lake Manyara National Park - Tanzania)
General Description
Migunga Forest Camp is located in 35 acres of forest in a quiet corner on the northwestern shore of Lake Manyara and close to Migungani Village. The camp is approx 10 minutes drive from the entrance of Lake Manyara National Park, which spreads out across the Great East African Rift Valley, dominating the landscape. Manyara is often called Tanzania's water wonderland due to the large number of birds and animals the lake supports. The park has a variety of vegetation types - the ground water forest as you enter the park, the soda flats circling the lake, and the acacia woodland that makes up a large part of the park. Animals to be seen include elephant, buffalo, impala, giraffe, hippo, jackals, waterbuck, baboons, monkeys, wart hogs, and zebra. Lake Manyara NP is also famous for its tree-climbing lions.
Accommodation
Migunga Camp consists of nineteen self-contained tents. Bathrooms have running hot and cold water, showers, and flush toilets. There is a dining room and bar under thatch. Electricity is 12 volt supplied by solar power. The tents are all spacious, under thatched roofs on platforms with verandahs. Towels, soap and bottled water are provided in the bathrooms. The rooms have mosquito nets, coils and sprays.
Food and Dining
Full and Half Board options with delicious home cooked meals served in the bar restaurant area, where local drinks are on sale.
Activities
Apart from game drives in Lake Manyara National Park you may also visit local village projects such as a flower farm, local farms and the banana plantations. Also to be seen is the hand crafting of Maasai spears, knives, and other metal work. For the active mountain bikes can be hired and the trail starts directly from the camp.
