Little Mombo Camp

(Moremi Game Reserve - Botswana)

General Description
Little Mombo Camp is an extension of Mombo Camp, sharing the same location of Mombo Island, adjoining the northern tip of Chief's Island, within the Moremi Game Reserve. The island is surrounded by the open floodplains of the Okavango Delta, and the camp itself is largely built in and around the shade of large mangosteen, ebony and fig trees - overlooking a wonderful floodplain teeming with game.  

The whole of Chiefs Island and Mombo fall within the Moremi Game Reserve, in a zone within the reserve set aside for "low intensity" safari use.  Thus Mombo and Little Mombo are remarkably exclusive and remote.

The sheer numbers and variety of large mammals in this area defy description. From elephant and both species of rhinoceros, to hyena, giraffe, wildebeest, zebra, lion, leopard and cheetah. From herds of buffalo to tiny steenbok, they occur in this area in large numbers all year round. Little Mombo combines luxury and exclusivity with arguably the best game viewing in Botswana.  

Accommodation
The three tented guest rooms and connecting walkways are up to two metres off the ground, allowing game to wander freely through the camp, but at the same time ensuring guests' safety. The rooms are comfortably furnished, spacious and well appointed and have en-suite facilities under canvas as well as an additional outdoor shower for those who enjoy a shower under the stars. Each tent has a private verandah to the front and a sala. All are fan cooled and come with soap, shampoo, towels and insect repellents.

Dining
The Camp has a dining room, lounge and bar area on raised deck under thatch where meals are served. There are also Kgotla (boma) for outdoor dining. Alternatively, private dinners can be served on the guest room decks or in a private lounge. Picnics are provided on game drives, allowing for full day excursions. Drinks are included with meals (excluding premium brands and champagne).

- Short game walks can be offered during siesta time on request. Please note that no rifles are allowed in the park.

Child Policy
Children over 8 years are welcome.

Environmental Policy
This camp is run by Wilderness Safaris. Wilderness is a company at the forefront of eco-tourism who employ full-time environmentalists to ensure their camps are as eco-friendly as possible.  Solar heating and power, limited burning of fossil fuels and utilising battery-operated lighting systems are standard. All camps are small, mostly tented and designed to blend into the natural environment. Their goal is that if a camp has to be moved the site can be restored to its natural state. Their "conservation through tourism" policy shares the benefits of tourism with local communities and ensures the protection of these areas for future generations.
