Klippe Rivier
(Whale Coast and Overberg - South Africa)
General Description
Located just outside the town of Swellendam, allegedly the third oldest town in South Africa, Klippe Rivier is the best preserved manor house in the region, dating back to 1820. The house has beautiful gardens with manicured lawns, huge oak trees and herb gardens.
The interior has been refurbished according to the various eras of ownership from the original Cape Dutch fashion, to Victorian, Colonial and Edwardian styles, and later to Art Deco and more Comtemporary themes.
Accommodation
Each of the bedrooms at Klippe Rivier has been named after previous owners. The original "Waenhuis" and white washed stables have been converted into six luxury bedrooms preserving much of the original ambience.
Downstairs, three spacious bedrooms each have an open fireplace, dressing room and generous en-suite bathroom with separate shower and toilet.
Three loft rooms upstairs are under thatch, offer mountain views and have private balconies. A secluded cottage is for the more romantic, with its own fireplace and private garden.
Dining
Generous farm breakfasts include homemade preserves, Klippe Rivier's famous muesli and a variety of fruits in season. Dinner is a 3 course table d'hote meal, with 2 choices for each course including coffee & truffles.
