Dora Nawas

(Damaraland and Kaokoland - Namibia)

General Description
Doro Nawas Camp is situated in the ruggedly beautiful Damaraland area, on a rocky outcrop within the floodplain of a small tributary of the Huab River. The camp is located in the valley of the dry Aba-Huab River, with spectacular views of the Etendeka Mountains to the north and the red sandstone cliffs of Twyfelfontein (famous for its San rock engravings) to the south.

The unique lodge design allows for an unspoilt panoramic view of this diverse and dramatic landscape, which varies from tabletop outcrops, small canyons, dry riverbeds to savannah and grassland vistas. The magnificent terrain holds all the possibility for a sighting of the rare desert-adapted elephant, as well as kudu, springbok, ostrich and other species that can live in a desert environment. Other possible sightings include black rhinoceros and hartman's mountain zebra.  Birdlife is excellent - Rupells korhaan among other endemics.

Doro Nawas is an excellent base for self-drive and fly-in guests exploring the local area in game drive vehicles. You'll also have a wonderful opportunity to contribute to the economic empowerment of the local community while enjoying a luxury safari experience.

Environmental Policy
This camp is a joint venture between the local Doro Nawas community and Wilderness Safaris. Wilderness is a company at the forefront of eco-tourism who employ full-time environmentalists to ensure their camps are as eco-friendly as possible. Solar heating and power, limited burning of fossil fuels and utilizing battery-operated lighting systems are standard. All camps are small, mostly tented and designed to blend into the natural environment.  Their goal is that if a camp has to be moved the site can be restored to its natural state. Their "conservation through tourism" policy shares the benefits of tourism with local communities and ensures the protection of these areas for future generations.
