Desert Homestead
(Sossusvlei - Namibia)
General Description
You'll find it hard to find a more idyllic setting than the Desert Homestead with views of the distant Nubib Mountains, purple in the morning sunlight. The lodge is located south of Sesriem which is the gateway into the Sossusvlei dunes of the Namib Naukluft National Park and therefore makes an excellent base for exploring both Sossusvlei and the rest of the Namib Desert. However Desert Homestead is also known for horse-riding with morning and sunset horse safaris for keen riders as a highlight of your Namibia holiday. Desert Homestead will ensure you an unrivalled respite from the desert extremes in tranquil surroundings.
Accommodation
The lodge offers simple but stylish accommodation in 20 thatched, en-suite chalets, decorated in pale linens and dark wood furniture. Each chalet has its own verandah under a canopy with northern views extending to the Rotterkaum Mountains. Inside the chalets are large single or double beds and en-suite bathrooms with a shower and toilet. The lights and fans are solar powered. All guest amenities (soaps, shampoo, body lotion etc.) are environmentally friendly.
Dining and Food
The main building at Desert Homestead is a restored farmhouse with dining area and sitting room. However, meals are usually served on the covered stoep (verandah) enjoying the view of the Nubib Mountains. Desert Homestead's cooking is wholesome Namibian country cooking or possibly a braai (barbecue).
