Benguerra Lodge

(Bazaruto Archipelago and Vilanculos - Mozambique)

General Description
Benguerra Island is the second largest island in the Bazaruto Archipelago, famous for its unspoilt white beaches, remarkable dive sites and excellent fishing. Some of the best scuba diving and snorkelling in this part of the world is available off Benguerra’s shores. Inland, Benguerra Island comprises forest, savannah, freshwater lakes and wetland eco-systems that sustain a diverse population of fauna and flora. The archipelago is also one of the last remaining habitats of the endangered Dugong

Situated in a bay on the northwest side of the island, and merged into a natural milkwood forest, lies Benguerra Lodge, a small and intimate retreat that offers genuine hospitality in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. The lodge is built from local natural materials, with wooden floors, woven reed walls and thatched roofs. The main area is home to a lounge and bar, dining room, library and raised wooden deck offering fantastic views of the surrounds. There is also a spa and small swimming pool.

Encircled by silver beaches, coral reefs and turquoise seas teeming with tropical fish, Benguerra Lodge is the perfect example of a classic island retreat.

Accommodation
Accommodation is in wonderful bungalows, all set back into the indigenous milkwood forest. Each Bungalow has a sea-view and is no more than 15m from the beach.

There are Cabanas built right on the edge of the beach. Romantic and elegant, the suites offer guests the chance to experience the ultimate island getaway. Each Cabana has a king-sized bed, large bathroom with bath, indoor and outdoor shower, a private deck with Jacuzzi/plunge pool, hammocks and sun loungers.  You will also find a mini-bar and coffee/tea making facilities.

The Villa is the epitome of exclusivity. The luxury furnishings and private facilities make it an ideal place for those wanting unsurpassed comfort and privacy, honeymooners and families.  A personal chef prepares all meals at the Villa, although the main lodge dining facilities are also available to Villa guests.

The Villa has two double bedrooms with mosquito nets and overhead fans, en-suite bathrooms with bath and shower. The villa also has an intimate lounge and dining area, fitted with hand carved mahogany furniture. There is also a private wooden deck with a swimming pool and a private garden and beach access.

Dining
The restaurant at Benguerra Lodge has a reputation for freshly caught seafood, specialising in crab, lobster and prawns as well as a variety of meat dishes. Meals are served in the dining area or on the beach. Castaway picnics are an alternative.
