General Description

Akagera Game Lodge is a lodge set in the stunning Akagera National Park, an expanse of savannah punctuated with eight lakes which attract thirsty giraffe, zebra, antelope and elephants daily. Built on the site of the old Akagera Hotel, the lodge opened in 2003, and offers a range of activities for guests, including walks, game drives and game trails: with more than a dozen species of antelope, some of the densest concentrations of water birds on the African continent and the impressive sight of massive crocodiles basking in the sun with their jaws agape, there is always plenty to see.  For those who would like to stay in, the lodge has fantastic views of Lake Ihema, with the pool on the edge of the savannah, tennis courts available to guests and an indoor and outdoor bar and restaurant serving excellent buffet meals.

Accommodation

The lodge offers premier accommodation in 58 en-suite studios and 2 Executive suite, each with its own patio overlooking Lake Ihema, allowing one to witness a magnificent sunrise or sunset in true African style . Decorated with a charming African flair, each studio contains two beds writing desk, chair and satellite TV .All rooms have been individually interior designed along pan-African themes.

Dining and Food

A reasonably varied a la carte menu of grills, burgers and pasta dishes, though nothing to get excited about, is competently prepared and presented. The filling breakfast normally starts at 6 am but can be served at 5:30 am to allow for early morning game drives.

Facilities

The hotel has a restaurant (the Shoebill Restaurant), a bar (the Elephant Bar) and an outdoor terrace overlooking the lake. There is also a small swimming pool for children, plus tennis facilities
